What is the Electronic Data Interchange solution?
This is a way to speed up the flow of information while reducing the opportunity for human error. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) moves from a paper-based system to an electronic system. It can be used as a replacement for mail, fax and email and can be set up to flow information directly in to a particular application for immediate processing. Some of the most common EDI exchanged documents are purchase orders, invoices and advanced shipment notices (ASN’s).
How does it work?
Let technology streamline/simplify the process. With an agreement between two partners to exchange data, an EDI standard connection and EDI standard version must be created. Typically this is done by a service provider. The standard connection allows documents to flow straight through to the appropriate application on the receiving side so processing can begin immediately. The standard version allows for smooth document translation during the transfer.
